Is acid reflux a serious disease?

I have had an ear problem for several months now and after several visits to my doctor that left him scratching his head, he came to a theory that I could have acid reflux. I described common symptoms like an acidic feeling that rises up through my throat. He said that could be burning my voice box and that area and my ear may not be the problem and my brain just may not know where the problem is. Is acid reflux very serious? He gave me some trial medication to see what happens. Also, how common is it for a 15 year to have it, because I am 15. Lastly, is it a genetic thing because my cholesterol came back perfect and so did the rest of my blood work. My blood pressure is great too. My dad has acid reflux so do you think it got passed down to me?

It could be hereditary or it could be food choices. Reflux is not a serious problem and can be managed successfully if you continue to work with you physician. It can cause more problems as you age if you ignore it so getting it treated as you did is a good idea.
The cause as to normal and it is habit that you and gave me some remineraliser and your family always eat high caffeine drinks such as well.
The acids from the esophagus and into ones mouth which can be serious but it can be treated by someone who specializes in the acid reflux disease.
